Private transport with a driver between La Fortuna and the rest of the country, plus the jeep-boat-jeep crossing to Monteverde: a van to the dam, a boat across Lake Arenal with the volcano behind you, and a van to your hotel on the other side. It takes about three and a half hours, and going by road saves neither time nor money.
