About Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails
The only hotel inside Arenal Volcano National Park. Built in 1987 as a Smithsonian research station and it still carries that observation-post feel. Its own trails run down to the lake and up toward the lava flows.

What to expect
- It is the only hotel inside Arenal Volcano National Park, and it used to be a research station: hence the name.
- 352 hectares of grounds: 110 of primary rainforest with marked trails, 160 of reforestation and 80 of working farm.
- Trails of 2 to 3.4 km crossing secondary forest to hardened lava flows and viewpoints; some reach waterfalls and a hanging bridge.
- 48 rooms in four separate buildings, most with a view of the cone from the bed.
